An exhibit on Prof. Arai’s vocal tract models at the Special Exhibition of National Museum of Ethnology

Prof. Arai’s vocal tract models which explain “the mechanism of speech” were exhibited at the Special Exhibition of National Museum of Ethnology. The exhibition was held from the Sep. 1st to the Nov. 23rd, and was entitled “Homo loquēns ‘talking human’ Wonders of Language and Languages.”
Additionally, Prof. Arai had a workshop including crafts of vocal tract models using familiar materials.

Vocal tract models were exhibited as a part of the segment “the mechanisms of body producing speech.”

In the workshop, Prof. Arai had activities including crafts, based on the following three themes:
1) The mechanisms of breathing
2) What is the “source” of speech?
3) How are vowels of /a/ and /i/ produced?
